Brand Identity Design

Ananda Yoga & Pilates Studio

A complete brand identity created from scratch for a yoga and pilates studio rooted in mental and physical wellbeing.

The studio encourages connection to breath, body, and self – offering a grounded experience for all levels, both in-person and online.

brief

This London-based studio offers yoga and pilates practices on the mat, emphasising grounded movement, breathwork, and inner alignment. With a focus on building strength from within, the fusion of both disciplines supports not just the body, but also emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

SCOPE OF WORK:

  • Naming
  • Logo
  • Typography selection
  • Colour palette
  • Marketing materials
  • Merchandise

Challenges

Naming the studio was a key challenge – especially within a crowded UK wellness market where many studios already use terms like soul or rise. The name had to be unique, memorable, and available as a web domain.

Beyond that, the brand needed to unite two traditions:

Yoga, rooted in ancient Indian spiritual practices and elements of Hinduism and Pilates, a Western method developed by Joseph Pilates in Germany. and is focussed on strengthening the body and core. (Wikipedia). While distinct, both disciplines share breath awareness, body focus, and holistic health.

The visual identity had to bridge these worlds – calm yet strong, modern yet soulful.

Moodboard

The moodboard draws from minimalist interiors with organic touches – soft lighting, natural textures, leafy plants.

A balance of energising and calming colours reflects the dual nature of the practice.

Key Visual Themes:

  • Alignment and symmetry
  • Plant motifs and flowing lines
  • Spiritual and meditative imagery
  • Strength and softness in equal measure

Brand Attributes:
Calm in the mind,
Strength in the body,
Vitality in the soul.

A sense of confidence and joy that comes from being centred and whole.

Naming the Studio – Ananda

Ananda is a Sanskrit word meaning bliss or happiness – a core concept in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. It’s also associated with Ananda Yoga, a Hatha Yoga tradition focused on awakening inner energies (from the chakras) through pranayama (breath) and movement in asanas (poses). While the name leans into the spiritual roots of yoga, the logo includes a tagline to make clear that this is a Yoga & Pilates Studio – where both practices are honoured equally

Visual Identity

Logo

The logo began as a hand-drawn intricate mandala – symbolising expansion, joy, and connection. Petal and leaf elements reflect both nature and the inner blossom of practice.

The final logomark is a simplified, modernised version: it can be seen as a mandala, an open blossom, or a seated figure in meditation – embodying the balance and wholeness the studio offers.

Typography

Typography is clean and modern – soft-edged sans serifs that feel grounded and approachable, with subtle strength in their geometry.

Colour Palette

The colour palette blends:
Pastels – calming, soft, and reflective Deeper greens – grounding and restorative Accents – friendly, energising, and bright

Patterns & Decorative Elements

Using the logomark as a base, I developed a set of supporting patterns – floral, symmetrical, and meditative. These are used subtly across brand touchpoints, from studio decor to merchandise, adding visual depth without overwhelming.
